Ranchi Couple Arrested for Brutal Murder Over Illicit Affair in Village

In a shocking incident from Ranchi district, a couple has been arrested on charges of murdering a 25-year-old man over an illicit relationship. The crime occurred at Domadih village under the Sonahatu police station limits on January 31, according to police officials.

Accused Identified and Details of the Crime

The accused have been identified as Sulochana Devi (24) and her husband Kshatrapati Mahto (25). The victim, Harihar Mahto (25), allegedly had an illicit affair with Sulochana, which led to the brutal murder.

The headless body of Harihar Mahto was recovered from near the Kanchi river in Sonahatu on Sunday. After hours of intensive search, the severed head was found approximately one kilometer away from the body, police further stated.

Police Investigation and Confession

Officer in-charge of the Sonahatu police station, Prem Pradeep, provided details of the investigation. "Based on technical inputs, police detained the couple and interrogated them. They confessed to their crime and revealed the location of the body," he said.

The probe revealed that Sulochana had been in a relationship with Harihar for the past two years. Kshatrapati caught them together and subsequently asked his wife to call Harihar to their home on January 31. When Harihar arrived at the house, the three accused allegedly killed him, OC Prem Pradeep added.

Legal Actions and Ongoing Hunt

An FIR has been lodged in connection with the murder, and both accused, Sulochana Devi and Kshatrapati Mahto, have been sent to judicial custody. However, the investigation is not yet complete.

  • Hunt is under way for another accused, who is currently absconding.
  • The murder weapon has not been confiscated yet, police added.
