The District Legal Service Authority (DLSA) in Ranchi took a significant step this week to combat substance abuse among the youth. On Tuesday, the authority organized a series of engaging activities in local schools, focusing on the dangers of drug addiction.
DAWN Scheme: A National Initiative for Awareness
This impactful campaign is being conducted under the Drug Awareness and Wellness Navigation (DAWN) Scheme, a flagship program of the National Legal Services Authority aimed at fostering a drug-free India. The initiative in Ranchi commenced on Monday, marking a proactive effort to reach young minds at an impressionable age.
Schools and Students Embrace the Initiative
The program was rolled out at specific educational institutions across the district. Kasturba Gandhi Girl’s Residential Schools in Kanke and Jamchuan, along with Kala Sanskriti School in Ranchi, served as the venues for this crucial awareness drive.
Students participated enthusiastically in painting and essay competitions designed to creatively explore the ill-effects of drug addiction. The DLSA reported that a large number of pupils took part, showing keen interest in the subject matter.
Education on Impacts and Recovery
Beyond the competitions, the campaign served an important educational purpose. Experts and officials educated the attending students on the severe impacts of drug abuse, with a particular focus on its harmful effects on the brain and overall health.
Importantly, the discourse was not limited to just the problems. The students were also informed about practical ways of de-addiction, providing knowledge on recovery paths and support systems available for those struggling with substance dependency. This holistic approach under the DAWN scheme aims to empower the youth with both awareness and solutions.
