Ranchi on High Alert: Comprehensive Security Arrangements for Republic Day

Security measures have been significantly intensified across Jharkhand, with particular focus on Ranchi, to prevent any untoward incidents during the Republic Day celebrations on Monday. Public installations, airports, and railway stations are under heightened surveillance as authorities implement a multi-layered security strategy.

Police Deployment and Strategic Planning

Inspector General (Operations) Michael Raj confirmed that a general alert has been sounded throughout the state. Jharkhand Police is committed to ensuring peaceful and secure celebrations, with approximately 1,200 personnel being deployed across key locations. The primary focus remains the Morhabadi ground, where Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar will unfurl the national flag during the official ceremony.

SP (City) Paras Rana detailed that Ranchi police have been conducting thorough checks of hotels and lodges since Saturday, meticulously verifying the backgrounds of visitors. This proactive approach aims to identify and mitigate potential security threats well in advance of the celebrations.

Advanced Security Measures at Venue

The district administration has outlined comprehensive security protocols for the Morhabadi ground:

  • All visitors will undergo screening using doorframe and hand-held metal detectors
  • Anti-sabotage checks will be conducted with sniffer dogs at multiple locations including the main stage, VVIP areas, spectator sections, vehicle parking zones, and other sensitive spots
  • A dedicated control center has been established at the venue with specialized equipment and personnel

The control center will coordinate security operations with police personnel equipped with anti-riot 'vraj' vehicles, water cannons, fire extinguisher vehicles, tear gas units, bomb disposal squads, and advanced wireless communication systems. Continuous patrolling will be maintained around the venue perimeter, with plain-clothed police officers strategically positioned along the Governor's route and near the main stage.

City-Wide Security Coverage

Security forces will be stationed at numerous important locations throughout Ranchi to maintain vigilance and respond quickly to any incidents. Key areas receiving special attention include:

  1. Booty More
  2. Bariatu Chowk
  3. Piska More
  4. Birsa Chowk
  5. Rajendra Chowk
  6. Overbridge
  7. Saheed Chowk
  8. Radium Chowk
  9. Front of SSP Office
  10. Administrative Building
  11. Karbala Chowk

Railway Security Enhancements

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) has implemented additional security measures at railway stations, with passenger safety receiving top priority. Continuous surveillance is being maintained through closed-circuit television cameras, and adequate personnel have been deployed to ensure safe and smooth travel for all passengers during this period of heightened security.

RPF officials have appealed to passengers to remain vigilant and immediately report any suspicious persons, articles, or activities to railway employees, RPF personnel, or government rail police. This collaborative approach between security forces and the public strengthens the overall security framework during the Republic Day celebrations.

The coordinated efforts of Jharkhand Police, district administration, and railway security forces demonstrate a comprehensive approach to maintaining public safety during this important national celebration. The extensive preparations reflect the authorities' commitment to ensuring that Republic Day festivities proceed peacefully while maintaining the highest security standards across all public spaces in Ranchi and throughout Jharkhand.
