Ranchi Police Crack Down on Interstate Drug Trafficking Network
In a significant operation, the Ranchi police successfully dismantled an interstate drug racket on Wednesday, leading to the recovery of 61.19 grams of brown sugar with an estimated street value of approximately Rs 12 lakh. This bust highlights the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat narcotics trafficking in the region.
Arrests Made in Connection with Drug Smuggling
The police apprehended two individuals, identified as Sonu Yadav, aged 23, and Ajay Yadav, aged 20, both residents of Ranchi. They are alleged to have been actively involved in trafficking brown sugar from Sasaram in Bihar and distributing it to local drug dealers in Ranchi. The arrests underscore the collaborative nature of such criminal activities across state borders.
Police Action Based on Tip-Off Leads to Capture
According to Paras Rana, the Superintendent of Police for Ranchi city, the operation was initiated following a crucial tip-off received around 8:30 pm on Wednesday. The information indicated that the two accused were traveling by bus from Sasaram to Ranchi, carrying a consignment of brown sugar. They were expected to arrive at the New Market auto stand in Sukhdev Nagar from Kantatoli.
Upon receiving the intelligence, a police team strategically positioned themselves at the bus stand to intercept the suspects. At approximately 9:30 pm, the two individuals, upon spotting the police, attempted to flee the scene. However, the officers swiftly surrounded and apprehended both men, preventing any escape.
Details of the Drug Procurement and Trafficking Route
Rana further elaborated that the duo had traveled to Sasaram by train on Tuesday, where they procured the brown sugar from suppliers identified as Baban Sah and Suraj Sah. After completing the transaction, they returned to Ranchi by bus, intending to distribute the drugs within the city. This pattern of movement illustrates a well-organized trafficking route that exploits interstate transport systems.
Legal Proceedings and Charges Filed
A formal case has been registered against Sonu Yadav and Ajay Yadav at the Sukhdev Nagar Police Station. The charges have been filed under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, which governs offenses related to drug trafficking and possession in India. This legal action marks a step forward in curbing the spread of illicit substances in the area.
The successful bust not only disrupts a key supply chain but also sends a strong message to other potential traffickers about the vigilance of Ranchi police. Authorities continue to monitor such activities closely to ensure public safety and uphold the law.
