Ghazipur police arrested rape accused Santosh Yadav in an encounter at Karhar Buzurg. He was shot in both legs after opening fire. A pistol and cash were recovered.

Ghazipur Police Arrest Rape Accused in Encounter

In the early hours of Wednesday, Ghazipur police arrested a rape accused, Santosh Yadav (40), during an encounter at the Karhar Buzurg trijunction in the Mardah police station area of Ghazipur district. The accused sustained bullet injuries in both legs and was admitted to the Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.

Kasimabad CO Anubhav Rajarshi stated that acting on a tip-off, a police team led by inspector in-charge Taravati Yadav was conducting a check at the Karhar Buzurg trijunction. Upon seeing the police, Santosh, a resident of Devaria village in Jamania Kotwali, opened fire at the police team. In retaliatory firing by the cops, he was shot in both legs.

The police recovered a pistol, a cartridge, two empty shells, a bike, and Rs 750 in cash from him. Santosh was booked under Sections 137(2), 64(1), 115(2), 351(3) BNS and 3/4 POCSO Act. Based on the recovery, a case under Section 109(1) BNS and 3/25/27 Arms Act was registered. Further legal action is being taken against the arrested accused.
