A remand prisoner who fled from custody while undergoing medical examination at Gandhi Hospital on Sunday was apprehended by the Chilkalguda police on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Syed Ameer Hussain, a resident of Bowenpally, was initially arrested on May 19 by the Trimulgherry police in connection with a mobile phone-snatching case and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
Incident Details
While lodged at Chanchalguda prison, Hussain ingested five iron nails on Sunday. Around 1 pm, he was transported to Gandhi Hospital for an X-ray and medical treatment, accompanied by escort constables. At approximately 6:30 pm, during the course of tests and treatment, Hussain requested permission to use the washroom located within the ward premises. After some time, it was discovered that the prisoner had escaped through the washroom window and fled the hospital premises, according to a complaint filed by escort constable K Sai Kumar.
Police Response
The three-member escort team immediately conducted a search within and around the hospital but failed to locate the prisoner. Based on their complaint, the Chilkalguda police registered a case under Section 261 (Escape from confinement or custody negligently suffered by public servant) of the BNS on Sunday. Two special teams were formed to track down Hussain, leading to his arrest at Bowenpally on Tuesday night. The accused is scheduled to be produced before the court for further remand proceedings.
