A 60-year-old retired government employee has been arrested by the Kotturpuram all-women police in Chennai for allegedly sexually harassing a 12-year-old girl. The victim was attending Bharatanatyam dance classes conducted by the accused's wife at a private training center.
Incident Details
The minor, a Class VII student, used to attend the evening dance classes regularly. On Thursday, the accused, who is the husband of the dance instructor, took the girl to a secluded spot within the premises and sexually harassed her. The girl immediately reported the incident to her parents, who then filed a complaint with the police.
Police Action
Based on the complaint, the Kotturpuram all-women police arrested the man and produced him before a magistrate. He was subsequently remanded in judicial custody. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, with parents expressing concern over the safety of children attending private classes. Authorities have assured strict action against the accused.
