The Indian Army veteran community is in mourning following the tragic death of Lieutenant General K S Mann (Retd) in a hit-and-run accident in Panchkula, Haryana. The retired officer, a respected figure who once commanded the Bihar Regiment, succumbed to his injuries on Saturday after being struck by an unknown vehicle during his evening walk.

A Fateful Evening Walk Turns Tragic

The incident occurred on Friday evening near the retired General's residence in the Mansa Devi Complex, Sector 4. Passersby discovered Lt Gen Mann injured on the roadside and immediately alerted authorities. He was rushed to the Command Hospital of the Western Command in Chandimandir for urgent medical treatment. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff, the distinguished veteran could not be saved and passed away the following day.

Sub-Inspector Sukhwinder, the Acting Station House Officer of Mansa Devi Complex police station, confirmed the sequence of events. The police have registered a case under relevant sections of the law against the driver of the unidentified vehicle, who fled the scene. Investigations are actively underway, with officers scouring CCTV footage from adjacent areas, as the specific stretch of road where the accident happened lacks camera coverage.

A Legacy of Service and a Grieving Family

Lieutenant General K S Mann carried a proud military legacy. He was the brother of the late Brigadier Sukhi Mann, a legendary officer of the Parachute Regiment revered in army circles. Gen Mann himself served as the Colonel of the Bihar Regiment for several years during the 1990s, a role of great honour and responsibility.

He is survived by his wife and two sons, who are upholding the family's tradition of service. One son is a Colonel serving in the Indian Army, while the other serves with the Canadian Police. The family is currently awaiting the return of one of the sons before the post-mortem examination can be conducted, as stated by the police.

The news of his untimely and shocking demise has sent waves of sorrow through the armed forces community and beyond. Tributes have poured in from colleagues and friends who remember him as a dedicated, vibrant, and inspiring personality.

Major R S Virk (Lally), a fellow golfer, expressed profound shock and sadness. He recalled sharing many memorable moments with Lt Gen Mann on the golf course, highlighting his camaraderie, skill, and unwavering spirit. "His loss leaves a profound void in our community," Major Virk stated, echoing the sentiments of many who knew the retired General.

Panchkula Assistant Commissioner of Police Dinesh Kumar assured that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend the culprit responsible for this fatal accident. The search for the hit-and-run vehicle continues as authorities piece together the final moments of a life spent in the service of the nation.
