A retired teacher from a high school in Rayagada district, Odisha, was convicted on Tuesday by a vigilance court in a disproportionate assets case. The court sentenced the accused to two years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 50,000.

The convicted individual has been identified as Unna Rajendra Patro, a retired teacher of SSD (ST & SC Development) High School, which is managed by the SC and ST Development Department of the state government. The vigilance court found him guilty of amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income during his service period.

Court Verdict and Penalty

In addition to the two-year rigorous imprisonment, the court levied a fine of Rs 50,000 on Patro. The vigilance department has announced that it will initiate proceedings to stop his pension following the conviction, as per standard procedure in such cases.
