Rohtak Boy, 13, Critically Injured in Pit Bull Attack; Owners Booked
A 13-year-old boy was left with severe injuries after being viciously attacked by two pet pit bulls in Rohtak's Basant Vihar colony on Monday. The harrowing incident, which was captured on CCTV footage, shows the dogs chasing and mauling the child in a bustling market area, sending shockwaves through the local community.
Details of the Attack
The victim, identified as Dipanshu (13), had stepped out with his younger brother Poorav (7) to purchase lassi near their uncle's residence. According to police reports, the two pit bulls, allegedly released by neighbours, suddenly chased the boy. The animals aggressively caught hold of Dipanshu, attacked his abdomen, and dragged him to the ground, inflicting deep and serious wounds.
Rescue and Aftermath
A courageous passer-by, named Vikram, intervened at the scene and managed to rescue the child from the relentless assault. Dipanshu was immediately rushed to PGIMS Rohtak, where he is currently undergoing intensive medical treatment for his injuries. His condition remains critical as doctors work to stabilize him.
Allegations Against Dog Owners
The boy's father, Sunil Nehra, who serves as a manager at a central cooperative bank, has made serious allegations against the dog owners. He claims that Sharmila and her daughter Muskan, the owners of the pit bulls, did not intervene to stop the attack. Instead, they reportedly went inside their house, failing to assist the child during the traumatic ordeal.
Police Action and Investigation
In response to the incident, police from the Old Sabzi Mandi police station have taken swift action. They have registered a formal case against the two women, Sharmila and Muskan, under relevant sections of the law. An investigation has been initiated to determine the circumstances leading to the attack and to ascertain any negligence on the part of the dog owners.
The case has highlighted growing concerns about pet safety and owner responsibility in residential areas. Authorities are urging pet owners to ensure proper control and supervision of their animals to prevent such tragic incidents in the future.
