Pharmaceutical Company Manager Brutally Murdered in Rourkela

In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through the industrial city of Rourkela, a manager of a pharmaceutical company was found brutally murdered in a rented residence. The Raghunathpalli police have swiftly arrested a medical representative from the same firm in connection with the gruesome crime.

Details of the Tragic Incident

The deceased has been identified as Bhagirathi Swain, a 35-year-old manager who had traveled from Bhubaneswar to Rourkela on Friday evening. He visited the Civil Township area residence of Balaram Das, a 23-year-old medical representative employed under him at the pharmaceutical company. Das shared this rented accommodation with a colleague.

Tragically, Swain's body was discovered late Friday night, lying in a pool of blood in one of the rooms of the house. Upon being alerted, officers from the Raghunathpalli police station immediately rushed to the scene. They secured the body and maintained a vigil until Swain's grieving family members arrived from out of town.

Police Investigation and Arrest

The police, suspecting foul play, quickly detained Balaram Das for questioning. During interrogation, Das reportedly confessed to the murder, citing "some old enmity" as the motive. According to his statement, a discussion between the two on Friday night escalated into a heated argument. In a fit of rage, Das allegedly delivered multiple fist blows to Swain's face and head.

As Swain collapsed from the assault, he struck his head violently on the hard floor, leading to his instantaneous death. Based on this confession and preliminary evidence, the Raghunathpalli police formally arrested Balaram Das on Saturday evening.

Official Statement and Family's Anguish

M R Pradhan, the Sub-Divisional Police Officer of Panposh, confirmed the arrest, stating, "We have arrested an accused for killing the manager of a pharmaceutical company, and our further investigation is underway." The police are also investigating the involvement of two other individuals named in the First Information Report (FIR) lodged by Swain's family.

Following a mandatory post-mortem examination, Swain's remains were handed over to his family on Saturday. The tragedy has left his wife and two young children devastated. Swain, who was the sole breadwinner, is survived by his immediate family, who are now grappling with an irreplaceable loss.

Ongoing Police Probe

The Raghunathpalli police have registered a case and are conducting a thorough investigation. Key aspects being examined include:

  • The exact nature of the alleged old enmity between the accused and the victim.
  • The sequence of events leading to the fatal altercation.
  • Potential involvement of other persons as mentioned in the FIR.
  • Collection of forensic evidence from the crime scene.

This case highlights a grim instance of workplace-related violence escalating to a fatal conclusion. The local community and the pharmaceutical company's employees are in a state of shock, awaiting further developments as the police continue their meticulous inquiry to ensure justice is served.
