Ranchi Railway RPF Seizes 22 Illegal Liquor Bottles in Second Major Bust Within a Week
In a significant enforcement action, the Railway Protection Force (RPF) apprehended a man carrying 22 bottles of illegal liquor at Namkum railway station in Ranchi on Monday. Police officials confirmed the arrest on Tuesday, highlighting this as the second such seizure by the RPF in just one week, both targeting liquor being transported to Bihar where strict prohibition laws are in effect.
Intensive Checking Drive Leads to Arrest
RPF officers conducted an intensive checking drive at Namkum station on Monday as part of their ongoing crackdown on illegal activities. During the operation, personnel noticed a man behaving suspiciously while carrying a bag. Upon closer inspection and questioning, the individual identified himself as Aman Kumar, a 20-year-old resident of Samastipur district in Bihar.
The suspect was reportedly waiting to board the Sambalpur-Gorakhpur Express when he was intercepted by RPF officials. After preliminary investigation, the RPF handed Aman Kumar over to the excise department for further legal action regarding the illegal liquor possession.
Pattern of Bihar-Bound Liquor Smuggling Emerges
This incident follows another major seizure just days earlier. On March 17, the RPF arrested three individuals from Nalanda district in Bihar and confiscated 65 bottles of illegal liquor during an operation at the same Namkum railway station. Investigations revealed that the accused had allegedly purchased the liquor from Kantatoli in Ranchi and were transporting it to Bihar with the intention of selling it for profit.
The back-to-back seizures within a week underscore a concerning pattern of liquor smuggling operations targeting Bihar, where prohibition has been in force since 2016. The RPF's heightened vigilance at railway stations appears to be yielding results in intercepting these illegal consignments before they reach their intended destination.
Broader Implications and Enforcement Challenges
These incidents highlight several important aspects of law enforcement in the region:
- The Railway Protection Force is intensifying its monitoring efforts at key railway stations
- There appears to be an established supply chain of illegal liquor from Ranchi to Bihar
- Young individuals are being involved in these smuggling operations
- The prohibition policy in Bihar continues to create black market opportunities
The RPF's successful interceptions demonstrate their commitment to curbing illegal transportation activities through railway networks. However, the recurrence of such incidents within a short timeframe suggests that smugglers continue to attempt bypassing prohibition laws, presenting ongoing challenges for enforcement agencies.
Authorities have indicated that further investigations are underway to identify and dismantle the networks behind these smuggling operations. The excise department is expected to pursue legal action against the arrested individuals while examining potential connections between the two recent cases.
