SAD leader Majithia appears in court for defamation case

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia appeared before a local court in Amritsar on Tuesday in connection with a defamation case filed against him. The case pertains to alleged derogatory remarks made by Majithia against a political rival during a public rally.

Court Proceedings

Majithia, a former minister in the Punjab government, arrived at the court of Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate under tight security. He was accompanied by his legal team and several party supporters. The court had earlier issued a summons to Majithia after taking cognizance of the complaint filed by the complainant.

During the hearing, Majithia’s counsel argued that the remarks were taken out of context and that his client had no intention to defame anyone. The court, after hearing both sides, adjourned the matter to a later date for further proceedings. Majithia was granted bail on a personal bond of Rs 20,000.

Background of the Case

The defamation case was filed by a leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), who alleged that Majithia made defamatory statements against him during a political rally in 2022. The complainant claimed that the remarks damaged his reputation and sought legal action against the SAD leader.

Majithia, however, maintained that his statements were based on facts and were not intended to harm anyone’s reputation. He expressed confidence that the court would deliver justice and that the case would be dismissed.

Political Reactions

The court appearance of Majithia has sparked reactions from political circles. SAD leaders voiced their support for Majithia, calling the case a politically motivated move by the AAP government to target opposition leaders. On the other hand, AAP leaders welcomed the court proceedings, stating that no one is above the law.

Meanwhile, the case has drawn attention to the ongoing political rivalry between the SAD and AAP in Punjab. Analysts believe that the outcome of this case could have implications for the political dynamics in the state.
