In a series of targeted operations, the Samba police arrested three suspected drug peddlers in the district. The arrests were made during separate patrols and checkpoints, aimed at curbing the illegal drug trade in the region.
First Arrest in Samba Town
The first suspect was apprehended near the main bus stand in Samba town. Police recovered 10 grams of heroin from his possession. The accused has been identified as Raj Kumar, a resident of Samba. He was reportedly trying to sell the contraband to local youth.
Second Operation at Railway Station
In the second operation, a team from the police station intercepted a suspicious individual at the railway station. Upon search, 15 grams of heroin and a mobile phone were seized. The accused, identified as Mohan Lal from Jammu, was taken into custody. Preliminary investigations suggest he was part of a larger network.
Third Arrest in Border Area
The third arrest took place near the International Border in the Bari Brahmana area. Police recovered 20 grams of heroin and a packet of intoxicating powder from the suspect, identified as Sham Singh from Kathua. He was allegedly transporting the drugs to a nearby village.
Legal Proceedings Underway
All three accused have been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. They were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate in Samba and sent to judicial custody. Police officials stated that further investigations are ongoing to trace the source of the drugs and identify other members of the supply chain.
The Samba police have intensified patrolling and surveillance in the district to prevent drug trafficking. Citizens have been urged to report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
