Tragic Collision on NH-55 Claims Life, Leaves Four Critically Injured
A devastating road accident in Sambalpur district resulted in one fatality and multiple critical injuries on Monday morning when a speeding truck violently collided with an auto-rickshaw. The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community and raised urgent questions about road safety on this busy national highway.
Details of the Fatal Morning Collision
The tragedy unfolded around 8 am on National Highway 55 near Phuljharan under the jurisdiction of the Jujumura police. According to preliminary reports, the auto-rickshaw was transporting approximately 12 passengers from Beherasinghgarh to the weekly market in Maneswar when a fast-moving truck approached from behind and struck the vehicle with tremendous force.
The impact was so severe that it caused the auto-rickshaw to overturn completely onto the roadway. Bed Kharasel, a 55-year-old woman from Beherasinghgarh, suffered fatal injuries and was declared dead at the scene. Four other passengers sustained critical, life-threatening injuries and were found lying in pools of blood amidst the wreckage.
Immediate Response and Rescue Operations
Alert local residents who witnessed the horrific crash immediately sprang into action. They carefully extracted the injured victims from the mangled auto-rickshaw and arranged for their urgent transportation to the Sambalpur District Headquarters Hospital for emergency medical treatment.
Upon receiving notification of the accident, officers from the Jujumura police station promptly arrived at the crash site. The police team secured the area, seized both vehicles involved in the collision, and launched a comprehensive investigation into the circumstances that led to this fatal incident.
Investigation Underway as Driver Flees Scene
Police sources confirmed that the truck driver abandoned his vehicle at the accident site and fled the location before authorities could arrive. This has complicated the investigation, though police are pursuing all available leads to identify and apprehend the responsible driver.
The identities of the four injured passengers remain unconfirmed as hospital staff focus on stabilizing their conditions. The auto-rickshaw was reportedly carrying significantly more passengers than its intended capacity, which may have contributed to the severity of injuries sustained in the collision.
This tragic incident highlights the persistent dangers on Indian highways, particularly involving overloaded public transport vehicles and speeding commercial trucks. The Sambalpur community mourns the loss of Bed Kharasel while praying for the recovery of those still fighting for their lives in hospital.
