Chennai Police Apprehends YouTuber 'Savukku' Shankar in Andhra Pradesh After Bail Period Expires
In a significant law enforcement operation, Chennai police successfully tracked down and arrested the controversial YouTuber known as 'Savukku' Shankar in Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday. This arrest came after Shankar failed to surrender to authorities following the lapse of his interim bail granted by the Madras High Court, which expired on March 25. A special police team from Chennai conducted the operation, resulting in the apprehension of Shankar along with three other individuals from a hotel in Andhra Pradesh.
Background of the Case and Legal Proceedings
Shankar was initially arrested on December 13, 2025, based on multiple cases registered at the Saidapet and Adambakkam police stations in Chennai. These cases involved serious allegations of extortion, prompting legal action against him. Subsequently, on December 26, 2025, the Madras High Court granted him interim bail on medical grounds, providing temporary relief from custody.
However, the state authorities later moved the court seeking the cancellation of this bail. They argued that Shankar had violated the conditions set forth in his bail agreement, leading to renewed legal scrutiny. Despite these developments, Shankar did not surrender before the authorities at Central Prison II in Puzhal on March 25, as required after his interim bail period ended.

Following his failure to appear, prison authorities at Puzhal lodged a formal complaint with the Puzhal police. This complaint cited offences punishable under Section 269 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which deals with the failure to appear in court without sufficient cause in accordance with bail terms. This legal provision underscores the seriousness of non-compliance with court orders in the Indian judicial system.
Police investigations revealed that while evading arrest, Shankar continued to actively post content on various social media platforms. His posts reportedly targeted senior bureaucrats, including high-ranking police officers, adding a layer of defiance to his actions. After completing a thorough investigation into the extortion cases, police filed charge sheets before the court, solidifying the evidence against him and his associates.
Post-Arrest Procedures and Future Court Appearances
