The accused, identified as Karan Keshi, a tile-fitter by profession, first contacted the Class 8 student on a social media platform in November last year. Police reported that he engaged in online grooming, a manipulative tactic where sexual offenders build trust with minors over time through casual conversations that gradually turn flirty and coercive.
In March, the minor girl skipped school twice—once mid-month and again last week. After the school's automatic message system alerted her parents about the unexplained absence last week, they questioned her at home. Under persistent probing, the girl broke down and confessed that on both occasions, she left home in her school uniform, changed out of it at school, and met Keshi.
Details of the Assault and Arrest
Keshi allegedly took the girl to a hotel in Gittikhadan on both occasions, where he sexually assaulted her. Shocked by the revelation, the parents immediately rushed to the Sadar police station and filed a formal complaint. Within hours, police arrested Keshi, who confessed to the crime during questioning.
Authorities have seized the accused's phone to investigate potential evidence of other victims. Keshi has been booked under relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and remains in police custody.
