Second Accused in Rohit Shetty Shooting Case Arrested in Agra, Total Detentions Reach 15
In a significant development in the high-profile shooting incident targeting renowned filmmaker Rohit Shetty, law enforcement authorities have made another arrest. The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) apprehended a wanted criminal allegedly involved in the firing at Shetty's Mumbai residence. The arrest occurred on Thursday evening in the Chhadami Mattha area along the Agra-Etawah Road, under the jurisdiction of the Bah police station.
Technical Analysis and Intelligence Sharing Lead to Arrest
STF Additional Superintendent of Police Rajkumar confirmed that the arrest was the result of meticulous technical analysis and seamless intelligence sharing between the Mumbai Police Crime Branch and the UP STF. The collaborative effort led to the capture of the accused, identified as Pradeep Kumar (28), a resident of Ashok Nagar in Agra.
During interrogation, Kumar reportedly disclosed that he was radicalized and influenced by social media posts associated with the Shubham Lonkar gang on platforms like Facebook and Instagram. Motivated by a desire to assert dominance and gain notoriety, Kumar, along with his associates Sunny, Deepu, and Sonu, traveled to Mumbai to participate in the shooting incident at Rohit Shetty's residence. This revelation was shared by an STF official who spoke to TOI on the condition of anonymity.
Details of the Crime Scene and Legal Proceedings
According to officials from the Mumbai Crime Branch, Kumar (22) was physically present at the scene of the crime alongside the primary shooter, Deepak Sharma. With Kumar's arrest, the total number of individuals detained in connection with this case has now reached 15. The Mumbai Crime Branch has already invoked the stringent provisions of the Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) against the accused, and a formal chargesheet has been filed in the matter.
The shooting incident took place on the night of February 1, 2026, at 'Shetty Tower' in the upscale Juhu neighborhood of Mumbai. Investigations suggest that the attack was orchestrated at the behest of the Shubham Lonkar gang with the dual objectives of extorting money and instilling fear within the film industry and the general public.
Transfer to Mumbai and Judicial Custody
Following his arrest in Agra, Pradeep Kumar was promptly transferred to Mumbai. A local court in the city has since remanded him to police custody, allowing authorities to conduct further interrogation and gather additional evidence. This arrest marks a critical step in the ongoing investigation, highlighting the effectiveness of inter-state police cooperation in tackling organized crime.
The case continues to unfold as law enforcement agencies work diligently to dismantle the network behind this brazen attack, ensuring that all perpetrators are brought to justice and that such incidents are prevented in the future.
