Second Arrest Made in East Delhi Parking Dispute Murder Case
New Delhi: In a significant development following the fatal shooting of a businessman during a parking altercation in east Delhi's Preet Vihar, police have secured a second arrest. Authorities have also apprehended the stepson of the primary accused, a property dealer involved in the violent incident that claimed a life earlier this week.
Details of the Arrests and Investigation
The newly arrested individual has been identified as Sunil Sharma, a 41-year-old property dealer residing in Noida. Police investigations confirmed that Sharma was an associate of the main accused, Gaurav Sharma, who is alleged to have shot and killed 34-year-old Pankaj Nayyar on Monday. "Sunil was present during the physical altercation and was subsequently arrested in Noida, where he had been attempting to evade authorities," stated police officials.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (east) Rajeev Kumar provided further details, revealing that Gaurav Sharma's stepson, Siddharth, aged 24, was also taken into custody. Siddharth, who was reportedly preparing for competitive examinations, was apprehended from a hotel in the Shahdara area. "He was actively involved in the scuffle that preceded the shooting," DCP Kumar emphasized. Police teams are continuing their search operations for at least two additional individuals believed to be connected to this case.
Weapon Details and Criminal Background of Accused
The investigative process has uncovered that the firearm used in this violent crime was unlicensed. Gaurav Sharma, who was arrested earlier, informed police during questioning that the pistol belonged to his brother and that he had begun keeping it in his possession since 2021. Law enforcement agencies are still conducting extensive searches to locate the actual weapon of offence, which the accused allegedly discarded while fleeing from the crime scene.
Further inquiry into Gaurav Sharma's background revealed a prior criminal record. He was arrested in Ahmedabad in 2021 in connection with a significant GST fraud case, resulting in a two-month jail term. The charges against him involved the forgery of tax documents and fraudulent activities. During recent interrogations, Gaurav claimed that he had been residing in Preet Vihar for the past six months because his primary residence in Shakurpur was undergoing renovations. He stated that he was engaged in the garment business professionally.
Sequence of Events Leading to the Fatal Shooting
Police have reconstructed the events that led to this tragic incident. The argument originated between brothers Pankaj Nayyar and Paras Nayyar, aged 43, and their neighbor, Gaurav Sharma. The dispute centered around parking arrangements involving Gaurav's Toyota Fortuner and BMW vehicles. During the heated confrontation, Gaurav allegedly fired his weapon at Pankaj Nayyar, striking him in the chest. Paras Nayyar was also assaulted with the butt of the same pistol during the violent encounter.
Paras Nayyar provided a detailed account to authorities, explaining his sense of vulnerability. "I felt unsafe being alone at home and called my brother from Noida so someone would be with me. I even attempted to resolve the issue by speaking to them and making them speak to Pankaj, but they kept threatening us. When Pankaj came to talk, Gaurav and two others attacked him, shot him, and assaulted me," he recounted. The accused individuals fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Local residents indicated that parking-related tensions involving Gaurav's vehicles had been simmering in the neighborhood for several months prior to this violent escalation.
