Security Guard Critically Injured in Ramgarh Market Shooting
In a shocking incident in Ramgarh district, a Central Coalfields Limited (CCL) security guard posted in Barkakana was shot at close range by unidentified gunmen on Saturday night. The attack occurred at the Jamuriya market in Sayal, with the assailants fleeing on motorcycles. Police confirmed the details on Sunday, highlighting the severity of the assault.
Victim in Critical Condition After Referral to Ranchi Hospital
The injured security guard was rushed to the CCL hospital in Bhurkunda immediately after the shooting. Due to the critical nature of his bullet wound, he was subsequently referred to a specialized hospital in Ranchi for advanced medical care. Authorities have reported that his condition remains critical, raising concerns about his recovery.
Upendra Kumar, the in-charge of the Bhurkunda police outpost, stated that the guard sustained a critical bullet injury during the attack in the local market. The motive behind the shooting is currently unknown, and police have launched a full-scale investigation. As of now, no suspects have been apprehended, leaving the community on edge.
Recent Pattern of Violence in the District
This incident follows a similar pattern of violence in Ramgarh district. Just a few days prior, four motorcycle-borne miscreants targeted the houses of two coal traders in Sauda Basti, firing shots that caused alarm among residents. These consecutive attacks suggest a troubling trend of criminal activity in the area, prompting heightened police vigilance.
Ranchi Police Arrest Three Gang Members Near Airport
In a separate but related development, Ranchi police acted on a tip-off and arrested three members of an organised crime group near the Birsa Munda airport on Sunday. The operation took place under the jurisdiction of the Jagarnathpur police station, with authorities moving swiftly to neutralize the threat.
Details of the Arrest and Recovered Weapons
SP (city) Paras Rana informed the media that the arrested individuals were identified as Pankaj Kumar, Riyansh Singh, and Ashwani Kumar. During the arrest, police recovered a country-made pistol, 15 cartridges, and two magazines from their possession. This seizure underscores the dangerous capabilities of the group.
A police team led by Hatia DSP P K Mishra initially apprehended Pankaj and Riyansh from an open ground, where they were found with illegal arms and cartridges. Upon interrogation, the accused revealed that they were awaiting instructions from their gang leader, Rahul Singh, to initiate firing in the city. Based on this information, Ashwani was subsequently arrested in Ranchi.
Ashwani's Role in the Criminal Network
Police investigations have revealed that Ashwani is a key member of the Rahul Singh gang and was previously associated with the Aman Singh gang. His primary responsibilities included manufacturing arms and ammunition, providing mobile phone numbers of traders to the gang, and preparing extortion messages. This arrest is seen as a significant blow to the organised crime operations in the region.
The combined incidents highlight ongoing security challenges in Jharkhand, with authorities working to address both immediate threats and underlying criminal networks. The investigation into the Ramgarh shooting continues, while police remain on high alert to prevent further violence.
