Notorious Sharpshooter Amit Kumar Apprehended Following Police Encounter in Patna
In a significant breakthrough for law enforcement, a notorious criminal was arrested after sustaining a gunshot wound to the leg during a police encounter on Marine Drive in Patna. The incident occurred under the jurisdiction of the Pirbahor police station area in the early hours of Sunday, marking a critical development in ongoing criminal investigations.
Police Action Based on Specific Intelligence
City SP (Central) Mamta Kalyani disclosed that authorities received a credible tip-off on Sunday morning indicating the presence of the accused, Amit Kumar, a resident of Vaishali district, at Marine Drive. Intelligence suggested Kumar was actively planning to commit a serious crime, prompting immediate police mobilization.
"A specialized team was swiftly constituted, and an intensive search operation was launched in the area," stated SP Kalyani, emphasizing the proactive measures taken by the police force.
Encounter Unfolds with Controlled Retaliation
According to official reports, the situation escalated when Kumar spotted the approaching police team and attempted to flee. In a desperate bid to escape, he opened fire on the officers. The police responded with maximum restraint, exercising their right to self-defense in a controlled manner.
"Our officers retaliated precisely, resulting in a bullet injury to his leg. He was immediately taken into custody and transported to Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) for urgent medical treatment, where he remains under care," elaborated SP Kalyani in her statement to the press.
Evidence Collection and Investigation
Following the shootout, police recovered a pistol from the scene. The entire stretch of Marine Drive was sealed off to facilitate a thorough forensic examination. Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) experts were summoned to conduct detailed analyses, while senior officials including Town DSP Rajesh Ranjan, the District Intelligence Unit (DIU), and the Special Task Force (STF) supervised the proceedings.
Criminal History and Previous Incidents
Investigations reveal that Amit Kumar has an extensive criminal background and was wanted in multiple serious cases across the region. A particularly alarming incident occurred on January 27, 2025, when Kumar attempted to infiltrate the Patna civil court premises with the alleged intention of assassinating Roshan Tatiya, an associate of the Subodh Singh gang.
That plot was thwarted after his accomplice, Piyush, was apprehended at the court gate during routine security checks while in possession of a weapon. Kumar, however, managed to evade capture at that time. During subsequent interrogation, Piyush disclosed that Kumar had transported him to the court on a motorcycle, after which Kumar had been absconding until this recent encounter.
Ongoing Interrogation and Future Steps
SP Kalyani confirmed that Kumar will undergo intensive interrogation to uncover critical details regarding his criminal network. "We aim to identify the gang or individual from whom he allegedly took the contract for the planned crime," she asserted, highlighting the police's commitment to dismantling organized crime operations.
