Shimla Police Cracks Down on Interstate Drug Network, Apprehends Key Supplier from Punjab

In a significant breakthrough against organized drug trafficking, the Shimla Police have successfully dismantled an interstate narcotics network, culminating in the arrest of a primary supplier based in Amritsar, Punjab. This operation highlights the escalating efforts by law enforcement to combat the illicit drug trade that spans across state borders.

Digital Investigation Leads to Major Arrest

The case originated on February 9, 2026, when police apprehended a 20-year-old woman, Naveen Lata, in the Jubbal area of Shimla district. She was found in possession of 13.46 grams of chitta, a local term for heroin. Following her arrest, authorities registered a case under Section 21 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, and launched a thorough investigation.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Singh disclosed that during the probe, police meticulously analyzed digital evidence, including call detail records and social media activities. This digital footprint revealed Naveen Lata's connections to a drug trafficker operating from Punjab, whose network extended to local youths in the Jubbal and Rohru regions of Shimla district.

Intensive Raids and Arrest of Main Supplier

Armed with this evidence, a special police team conducted continuous raids across multiple locations in Punjab, including Mohali, Kharar, and Amritsar. The intensive operation led to the arrest of the main supplier, identified as Lucas, a 34-year-old resident of Amritsar. This arrest marks a critical blow to the drug distribution chain that had been operating under a sophisticated location-based module.

From the accused, police recovered two mobile phones and seven SIM cards, which have been sent for forensic analysis to uncover further details about the network's operations and potential accomplices.

Location-Based Drug Delivery System Exposed

During interrogation, it was revealed that the network employed a covert location-based drug delivery system. Naveen Lata's role involved hiding and planting the contraband at various predetermined locations. She would then send photos and videos of these spots to the main supplier in Punjab. The supplier would subsequently share the exact coordinates with customers, facilitating anonymous and efficient drug deliveries without direct contact.

SSP Gaurav Singh emphasized that this method allowed the network to operate discreetly, but police efforts have now successfully dismantled this system, disrupting the flow of drugs into the region.

Ongoing Investigation and Broader Implications

The police are continuing their investigation to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in this network. This case underscores the growing trend of using digital tools and location-based tactics in drug trafficking, necessitating advanced investigative techniques by law enforcement agencies.

The arrest highlights the collaborative efforts needed to tackle interstate drug crimes and serves as a warning to those involved in such illicit activities. Authorities remain vigilant, leveraging technology and intelligence to curb the narcotics trade and protect communities from its harmful effects.
