Shootout in Sawai Madhopur market injures two

A violent shootout in a busy marketplace in Gangapur city sent shockwaves through the Sawai Madhopur district on Tuesday afternoon, leaving two men with bullet wounds. The incident, captured on CCTV, involved a targeted attack that also injured an innocent bystander shopping for furniture.

Chaos in the Marketplace

The shooting occurred around 2 PM in a crowded market area. According to Sawai Madhopur police, the primary target was Kadu Gurjar alias Pahalwan (45), a resident of Umri village who was in Gangapur for personal work. As he was walking towards the market, an unknown assailant opened fire at him.

In a desperate attempt to escape, Gurjar rushed into a nearby furniture shop. However, the gunman followed him inside and continued shooting indiscriminately. This reckless firing caught Jitesh Sharma (35) in the crossfire. Sharma, who had visited the shop to purchase furniture for a wedding, became an unintended victim of the attack.

Injuries and Immediate Aftermath

Both injured men received initial medical aid at a local hospital. Due to the severity of their wounds, they were later referred to Jaipur for further treatment. Police reports indicate that Kadu Gurjar sustained gunshot wounds to his stomach and thigh. Jitesh Sharma was hit on his hand and torso.

The CCTV footage from the area has become a crucial piece of evidence, clearly showing Gurjar fleeing into the shop with the assailant in pursuit. The police are analyzing the footage to identify the attacker, who remains at large.

Police Investigation and Criminal Link

Superintendent of Police Anil Kumar provided insights into a possible motive. He revealed that Kadu Gurjar had recently been released from jail after serving a sentence in a criminal case. The SP indicated that Gurjar may have become embroiled in a conflict with a known history-sheeter, which could be connected to the brazen daytime attack.

The Sawai Madhopur police have launched a full-scale investigation to apprehend the unidentified gunman. The case highlights concerns over public safety in busy urban areas and the potential for bystanders to get caught in targeted violence.
