Shopkeeper killed in Samastipur, police hunt assailants

In a shocking incident that has left a village in mourning, a 30-year-old betel shop owner was brutally shot dead during a dispute with unidentified assailants in Samastipur district. The tragic event occurred late Saturday night, prompting local authorities to register an FIR against unknown perpetrators on Sunday.

The Fatal Night: What Exactly Happened?

Arvind Kumar Sahani, son of Ranjit Sahani, operated a betel shop directly in front of his residence at Manwara village's ward number 10, falling under the Khanpur police station jurisdiction. According to police reports, the situation turned deadly when two youths arrived at his establishment on a motorcycle around 10 PM to purchase goods.

During what should have been a routine transaction, an argument erupted between Sahani and the customers. The confrontation took a violent turn when one of the youths allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot the shopkeeper. The single gunshot proved fatal, cutting short the life of the young businessman.

Family's Trauma and Police Investigation

The victim's younger brother, Parvinder Sahni, recounted the horrifying moments to authorities. "While I was studying in my room, my mother started shouting that Arvind was shot," he stated. "I immediately rushed to the shop and then took my brother to the hospital, where the doctors declared him dead."

Parvinder, who studies at a government college in Darbhanga and had recently returned home during the Chhath festivities, expressed complete bewilderment about the motive behind the killing. The family maintains that Arvind had no known enemies that would explain the brutal attack.

Law enforcement officials have transferred the body to Sadar Hospital for postmortem examination as they intensify their investigation into the murder case.

Police Response and Ongoing Investigation

Sadar SDPO-II Sanjay Kumar provided crucial details about the police's current investigative approach. "So far, the dispute is believed to be over the purchase of goods," he confirmed, indicating that the argument that led to the shooting may have begun as a trivial matter.

Police are actively scanning CCTV cameras installed in the vicinity to identify the shooters who fled the scene on their motorcycle. The SDPO expressed confidence in resolving the case soon, assuring the public that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community, raising concerns about public safety and law enforcement in the area. As the investigation continues, residents await answers about the senseless violence that claimed the life of a young shopkeeper.
