Heroin and Cash Seized from Police Officer
Punjab Police have arrested a Sub-Inspector (SI) and a female accomplice, recovering 300 grams of heroin and Rs 1.27 lakh in cash from their possession. The arrests were made in Tarn Taran district, highlighting the ongoing battle against drug trafficking within the state.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Surendra Lamba identified the arrested SI as Sahib Singh, a resident of Majjupur in Tarn Taran and currently posted as an Investigating Officer (IO) at the Khalra police station. The woman arrested is Kinder Kaur, a native of Mari Udhoke and currently residing at Baba Jallan Colony in Chabal, Tarn Taran.
In addition to the narcotics and drug money, police teams have impounded the Hyundai i20 car in which the two were travelling at the time of interception.
Operation Based on Intelligence
Acting on reliable intelligence, a police patrol party led by Station House Officer (SHO) Khalra Baljinder Singh intercepted the vehicle at Baba Jallan Colony in the Chabal area. During the search, conducted in the presence of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Sukhbir Singh, the contraband and cash were recovered.
Following the arrest, the services of SI Sahib Singh have been suspended with immediate effect. A case has been registered at the Chabal police station under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Separate Suspensions in Fazilka
In a related development, two police personnel in Fazilka district have been suspended in connection with a separate heroin smuggling case. Ghubaya police post in-charge Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Gurnam Singh and Head Constable Joginder Singh have been placed under suspension.
Head Constable Joginder Singh was arrested by Muktsar police on July 4, along with Arshdeep Singh (resident of Mamdot, Ferozepur) and Dilsher Singh (resident of Muktsar district), for allegedly possessing 280 grams of heroin. The police also seized a licensed revolver, five cartridges, and the accused's car.
Fazilka SSP Gagan Ajit Singh confirmed that Joginder Singh was suspended after his arrest. During subsequent investigations, the alleged involvement of ASI Gurnam Singh in the smuggling network came to light, leading to his suspension as well.
