Sibling Land Dispute Turns Deadly: Man Axes Sister to Death in Rajasthan Village
In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through a rural community, a 26-year-old man allegedly murdered his elder sister with an axe following a violent dispute over agricultural land in Rajasthan's Sriganganagar district. The tragic event unfolded on Sunday evening, resulting in the immediate arrest of the accused by police on Monday, along with the recovery of the weapon used in the crime.
Details of the Fatal Confrontation
The incident occurred around 7 PM in village 8 Dol, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Rawla police station. According to official police statements, the accused, identified as Surendra (26), had invited his sister Manju (27) to his house under the pretense of distributing her share of wheat from their ancestral agricultural land. Manju, who had been in a live-in relationship for the past two years, arrived at the location accompanied by her partner. Unaware of the impending danger, her partner later departed, leaving Manju alone at the house.
Police reports indicate that the siblings' mother was absent at the time, having traveled to Kaluwala village to attend a wedding ceremony. Later in the evening, a heated argument erupted between Surendra and Manju after she firmly demanded her rightful share in the family land. The confrontation quickly escalated, leading to a fatal outcome.
The Moment of Violence
A senior police officer provided a detailed account of the events: "A severe dispute erupted between the siblings over the land ownership. The argument intensified rapidly, and in a sudden fit of uncontrolled rage, Surendra seized an axe that was kept within the house and struck Manju directly on the head." The blow proved to be instantly fatal, causing Manju to collapse on the spot.
Hearing her desperate screams, Manju's partner rushed back inside the house only to discover her lying in a growing pool of blood, with the accused standing nearby still holding the weapon. He immediately contacted the Rawla police, who promptly arrived at the scene to initiate a thorough investigation.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Deputy Superintendent of Police Prashant Kaushik stated that, based on preliminary findings, the murder appears to be the direct result of a long-standing and bitter dispute over land inheritance. The victim was swiftly transported to a nearby hospital, where medical professionals officially declared her brought dead upon arrival.
Surendra, who is currently a BSTC student and the youngest among five siblings, was taken into custody after intensive questioning by authorities. Police have confirmed that further investigation is actively underway to uncover additional details and motives behind this tragic family conflict.
The case highlights the severe consequences that can arise from unresolved property disputes within families, particularly in rural agricultural communities where land holds significant economic and emotional value.
