Silver Artisan Beaten to Death in Agra Over Brother's Quarrel

A 26-year-old silver artisan was allegedly beaten to death in Agra late Sunday night in what police have described as a revenge killing. The main accused was arrested on Monday following a fatal assault triggered by a prior dispute involving his elder brother.

On the night of May 10, Harsh Jain was rushed to SN Medical College by his family, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.

“Upon reaching the hospital, it was revealed that an individual named Deva Mahaur and an associate had assaulted Jain,” said ADCP (Crime) Himanshu Gaurav. “A murder case has been registered under BNS Section 103(1), based on a complaint from the victim’s father, Dinesh Jain. The accused, Mahaur, is in custody, and further legal action is underway.”

According to Ankur Malik, station officer of Chatta PS, the violence stemmed from a minor altercation. Mahaur’s elder brother and the deceased were reportedly acquaintances and were together when a dispute broke out between them, leading Jain to assault Mahaur’s brother.

Enraged by the incident, Mahaur tracked Jain down in Dhuliyaganj area and launched the fatal attack. Police are currently working to identify and apprehend the remaining suspects.

Jain is survived by his parents, his wife and their three-year-old daughter.
