The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted on the directions of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has commenced its probe into the devastating fire tragedy in Lucknow. The team, which began its work on Tuesday, comprises Additional Chief Secretary (Tourism) Amrit Abhijat and Additional Director General of Police, Lucknow Zone, Praveen Kumar.
Formation and Mandate of the SIT
The SIT was formed following the CM's directive to ensure a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident that claimed multiple lives and caused extensive property damage. The team is tasked with examining all aspects of the tragedy, including compliance with fire safety norms, structural integrity of the building, and response of emergency services.
Scope of Investigation
The probe will cover the circumstances leading to the fire, any negligence on part of authorities or building management, and lapses in implementation of safety protocols. The SIT has been given a timeframe to submit its report, with instructions to recommend measures to prevent such incidents in the future.
According to official sources, the fire broke out in a commercial complex in the Hazratganj area, one of the busiest districts in the state capital. Preliminary reports suggest that the blaze spread rapidly due to inadequate fire exits and lack of sprinkler systems.
Response from Authorities
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the loss of lives and assured strict action against those found responsible. He emphasized that the state government is committed to ensuring justice for the victims and their families.
The SIT has already begun collecting evidence, recording statements from witnesses, and reviewing documents related to building safety clearances. The investigation is expected to be completed within the stipulated time frame, with the team working round the clock to ascertain the facts.
