Ranchi: Acting on a tip-off, police have arrested six persons, including a woman, and seized brown sugar, marijuana, tablets, and cash during raids conducted at different places under Hindpiri police station limits of Ranchi city on Monday.
Among those arrested were identified as Sahil, Md Ejaaz, Awadhesh Yadav, Anil Kumar Mahto, Sarvar Ali, and Sehnaz Khatun. All are residents of different parts of Ranchi city.
While addressing the media on Tuesday, Additional Superintendent of Police Nikhil Rai said the drug peddlers were involved in the sale and purchase of illegal drugs in Khet Mohallah, after which the raid was carried out.
He further stated, "As the team reached the spot, the accused started fleeing but were apprehended. Based on their information, police raided Sehnaz’s house and seized illegal addictive substances and Rs 8.74 lakh in cash. All of the accused have been sent to jail under judicial custody."
The police operation underscores the ongoing efforts to curb drug trafficking in the city. The seized substances include brown sugar, a highly addictive opioid, and marijuana, along with a significant amount of cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales. Authorities are continuing their investigation to trace the supply chain and identify any other individuals involved in the network.
