Vadodara: Police on Thursday arrested six persons for the assault on doctors at SSG Hospital. The hospital witnessed significant unrest on Wednesday when relatives of a deceased woman arrived to collect her body from the mortuary.
Incident Details
Ranjan Vyas, aged 79, had passed away on Monday, following which her body was kept in the mortuary as her relatives were expected to arrive from the United States for the cremation. Upon seeing the body in a decomposed state, the relatives and the deceased's son engaged in heated arguments with the hospital staff and doctors.
Assault and Legal Action
During the altercation, a doctor, two resident doctors, and a worker were allegedly assaulted by the family members of the deceased. The police filed a First Information Report (FIR) against ten individuals under the Gujarat Medicare Service Persons and Medicare Service Institutions (Prevention of Violence and Damage or Loss to Property) Act. Subsequently, six of the accused were arrested.
The incident highlights the ongoing tensions in healthcare settings, where relatives sometimes resort to violence due to emotional distress. Authorities have emphasized the need for strict action to ensure the safety of medical professionals.
