A local court in Fatehabad has convicted six individuals in a 2016 attempt-to-murder case, sentencing each to seven years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 1.5 lakh. The verdict was delivered on Friday by Additional Sessions Judge Amit Garg.

Case Background

The case was registered at the Bhuna police station on May 31, 2016, under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including attempt to murder, rioting, and criminal intimidation, as well as provisions of the Arms Act. The convicted individuals have been identified as Sachin Kumar, alias Tony, Vikas, Satish Kumar, alias Asharam, Surender, alias Salender Singh, Sumit, and Sanjay, according to SP Nikita Khattar.

Incident Details

The case originated from a complaint filed by Vishwamitra, a resident of Khajuri Jati village. He alleged that on the day of the incident, he was repairing a pipeline in his field along with his son Vinod, alias Manoj, brother Subhash, and nephew Sudhir. The accused arrived and engaged in a dispute over a passage. They allegedly attacked the victims with sticks and illegal weapons, and also opened fire. Vinod and Sudhir sustained serious injuries in the assault.

Investigation and Trial

A team led by then Assistant Sub-Inspector Gulab arrested the accused and collected evidence. After completing the investigation, the chargesheet was filed in court on August 2, 2016. During the trial, the prosecution examined 15 witnesses. Relying on witness testimonies, documentary evidence, and arguments presented by the prosecution, the court held all six accused guilty and awarded the sentence.
