Tragic House Fire in Meerut Claims Six Lives, Including Five Children
A devastating fire broke out at a residence in Meerut's Lisadi Gate area, resulting in the tragic deaths of six individuals, including five children, and leaving one woman injured. Police officials confirmed the incident on Tuesday, stating that the blaze is suspected to have been triggered by a short circuit.
Timeline of the Tragic Incident
The fire erupted at a house in Kidwai Nagar around 8 pm on Monday evening. Authorities received information about the emergency at 8:49 pm, prompting immediate response from both police and fire department teams who rushed to the scene. Despite their efforts to bring the blaze under control, the consequences were severe.
Seven people with burn injuries were initially admitted to the civil hospital for treatment. Tragically, doctors later declared six of them deceased, highlighting the intensity of the fire and the severity of their injuries.
Victims Identified and Current Condition of Survivor
The deceased have been identified as residents of Gali No. 3 near Surahi Wali Masjid in Kidwai Nagar. The victims include Rukhsar (25), Mahbish (12), Hammad (4), Akdas (4), Nabia (4 months), and Inayat (4 months). The heartbreaking list underscores the disproportionate impact on young lives.
The injured woman, Ameer Bano (55), is currently undergoing medical treatment at the hospital. Meerut Superintendent of Police Avinash Pandey provided these details to reporters at the hospital, confirming the ongoing care for the sole survivor.
Factors Contributing to the Rapid Spread of Flames
According to preliminary investigations by officials, tailoring work was being conducted at the house owned by Iqbal Ahmad. A significant quantity of cloth stored inside the premises is believed to have acted as fuel, causing the flames to spread with alarming speed. This combustible material likely intensified the fire's destructive power.
Police have indicated that prima facie evidence suggests the fire originated from a short circuit. However, authorities have emphasized that a detailed investigation is currently underway to determine the exact cause and circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
Community Impact and Official Response
The incident has sent shockwaves through the local community in Meerut, particularly in the Lisadi Gate and Kidwai Nagar areas. The loss of five children in a single fire has highlighted concerns about residential safety and fire prevention measures in urban households.
Emergency response teams worked diligently to contain the blaze once they arrived at the scene. Their prompt action prevented further casualties and property damage, though the tragedy had already unfolded by the time they reached the location.
This devastating fire serves as a grim reminder of the importance of electrical safety and proper storage of flammable materials in residential areas. As the investigation continues, authorities are expected to provide more details about preventive measures that could avoid similar tragedies in the future.
