Software Engineer Arrested for Fatal Stabbing in South Delhi Parking Dispute
In a tragic incident of road rage, a software engineer was arrested on Friday for allegedly stabbing a man to death and seriously injuring his friend during a heated argument over parking and right-of-way in south Delhi's Aya Nagar area. The altercation, which escalated from a minor traffic disagreement to a violent confrontation, has left one family grieving and another individual recovering from stab wounds.
Police Investigation Reveals Details of the Altercation
Delhi Police took over the investigation after receiving information from Haryana Police on February 20 regarding two individuals admitted to a Gurgaon hospital with stab injuries, one of whom was declared dead on arrival. The preliminary probe determined that the crime occurred in Aya Nagar, within Delhi's jurisdiction.
According to police officials, the two victims were returning late at night from a DJ function in Dera village. Around midnight, near Ganpati Garden in Aya Nagar, they encountered a car allegedly parked in a manner that obstructed their path. The men, who were traveling in a mini-truck carrying DJ equipment, requested the car driver to move his vehicle to allow them passage.
"The car driver initially stated they could pass, but the truck driver insisted there was insufficient space," an investigating officer revealed. This disagreement quickly spiraled into a verbal argument over the parking position and right of way, which then turned physical and violent.
Escalation to Violence and Aftermath
Police reports indicate that during the altercation, the car driver allegedly produced a knife and attacked both men. The injured individuals were rushed to a hospital in Gurgaon, where 38-year-old Sandeep Lohia was pronounced dead. His friend, identified as Rishi, sustained multiple stab wounds but is currently undergoing treatment and is reported to be in stable condition, out of immediate danger.
Following the incident, investigators launched an intensive search for the car driver. The accused, identified as 32-year-old Ravi from Sonipat, was subsequently arrested. Police disclosed that Ravi works as an engineer at a private company in Gurgaon and had reportedly traveled to Aya Nagar to attend a wedding celebration.
"The accused claimed he was slapped during the argument, which prompted him to retrieve the knife. We are currently verifying his statement through our ongoing investigation," police officials added.
Additional Investigation Details
Investigators have raised suspicions that the accused may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the incident. "His blood sample has been collected and sent for forensic examination to determine alcohol content," confirmed an officer involved in the case.
The knife allegedly used in the attack has been seized as evidence. Authorities have registered a case under Sections 103(1) (murder) and 109(1) (attempt to murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita at the Fatehpur Beri police station, reflecting the serious nature of the charges.
This incident highlights the dangerous consequences that can arise from seemingly minor traffic disputes and serves as a sobering reminder about the importance of conflict de-escalation in tense situations on public roads.
