Son-in-Law Allegedly Kills Elderly Mother-in-Law, Critically Injures Wife in Mayiladuthurai Domestic Dispute
A shocking incident of domestic violence unfolded in Mayiladuthurai district, Tamil Nadu, on Monday, resulting in the death of a 75-year-old woman and critical injuries to her daughter. Police have launched a manhunt for the primary suspect, identified as P Panneerselvam, a 60-year-old daily wage labourer from Komal village.
Details of the Tragic Altercation
The dispute reportedly began at the home of the victim, Vasantha, located in Kandamangalam village. According to police reports, Panneerselvam engaged in a heated argument with his 45-year-old wife, Baby Rani, who was visiting her mother. The altercation escalated violently when Panneerselvam allegedly struck Baby Rani on the head with a spade handle, causing severe and life-threatening injuries.
Upon hearing the commotion, Vasantha rushed to intervene and protect her daughter. Tragically, Panneerselvam turned his aggression towards the elderly woman, attacking her as well. Vasantha succumbed to her injuries at the scene, while Baby Rani was left in critical condition.
Police Response and Legal Action
Neighbours who heard the cries for help quickly arrived at the location, but Panneerselvam had already fled the scene before they could apprehend him. The Palaiyur police were immediately notified and responded promptly to the incident.
Law enforcement officials retrieved Vasantha's body and transported it to the Government Tiruvarur Medical College Hospital for a thorough postmortem examination. Meanwhile, Baby Rani was rushed to the Mayiladuthurai Government Hospital, where she is currently receiving intensive care in the ICU.
The police have registered a comprehensive case against Panneerselvam under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The charges include Section 101 for murder, Section 109 for attempt to murder, Section 115 for voluntarily causing hurt, and Section 118 for voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons.
