In a shocking incident that has sent ripples through a quiet village in Bihar, a man was arrested for the alleged murder of his own mother. The brutal crime, involving a hammer, unfolded in Khagaria district, revealing a tragic tale of sudden rage and possible mental instability.
The Trigger: A Drop of Oil Leads to Fatal Rage
The incident occurred late on Tuesday night in Khiradih village, falling under the Parbatta police station area. The deceased was identified as 60-year-old Udani Devi, wife of Ghanshyam Mandal. Her son, Mantu Mandal, has been named as the accused.
According to police investigations, the tragic sequence began when Udani Devi was massaging her son's legs with oil. In what appears to be a simple, unintentional act, some oil was applied to Mantu's forehead. This seemingly minor incident allegedly triggered an immediate and violent outburst from the son.
A Brutal Attack and a Missing Body
Witnesses and preliminary reports state that Mantu became aggressively angry and started shouting. The situation deteriorated so rapidly that his father, Ghanshyam Mandal, fled the house in fear for his own safety. Left alone with his mother, Mantu is alleged to have picked up a hammer and struck Udani Devi on the head multiple times. The attack was so severe that it resulted in her instant death on the spot.
Police were informed about the murder around 11 am on Wednesday morning. Parbatta Station House Officer (SHO) Diwakar Singh promptly reached the scene with a team. While bloodstains were recovered from the crime scene, a critical piece of evidence remains missing: the victim's body.
"Preliminary investigation revealed that Mantu murdered his mother. Bloodstains have also been recovered from the crime scene. However, it is unclear whether the body has been burned or hidden somewhere. Currently, police are engaged in an investigation of the entire matter and searching for the body," stated SHO Diwakar Singh.
Background of a Troubled Mind
As the investigation progressed, a picture of the accused's troubled mental state emerged. Police confirmed that Mantu Mandal is said to be mentally disturbed. His aggressive behaviour had previously disrupted his personal life to the extent that his wife left him and continues to stay at her maternal home.
The family structure also sheds light on the living situation. Mantu resided in the same house with his elderly parents, while his two other brothers lived separately. The accused has since been arrested, and a search for Udani Devi's body is underway as police work to piece together the full sequence of this harrowing event.
