Superintendent of Police Bhupender Singh inaugurated the special anti-extortion cell (Special Staff) at the police building in Sector 6, Panipat, on July 27, 2026. The cell is designed to prioritize action in extortion and ransom cases, strengthening law and order and curbing organized crime in the district.
Inauguration Ceremony Details
The event was attended by DSP Narendra Kumar, Mukesh Kumar, Station House Officers (SHOs) from various police stations, crime unit in-charges, and other police personnel. SP Singh emphasized that public safety and further strengthening of law and order remain the highest priority for Panipat police.
Scope and Functions
The Anti-Extortion Cell will specifically handle complaints related to extortion, ransom, threats, organized crime, and illegal recovery carried out by criminals through phone calls, social media, or other means, the SP stated. He assured that the cell would investigate such cases promptly, impartially, and with technical expertise. SP Singh encouraged Sub-Inspector Anil Pawar, the cell in-charge, and his team to work efficiently and issued necessary directions. He directed officials to treat every complaint seriously, provide victims with prompt relief, and take effective action against those involved in organized crime to bring them within the ambit of the law.
Use of Modern Technology
The Superintendent of Police said that modern technology, cyber analysis, and intelligence networks would be effectively used to maintain continuous surveillance on criminal activities. This approach aims to prevent crimes and quickly respond to threats.
Public Appeal
SP Singh appealed to the public to immediately contact the police or the Anti-Extortion Cell without fear if they receive any call, message, or other threat related to extortion, ransom, intimidation, or forced recovery. He reiterated the objective of the Panipat police is to provide citizens with a safe and fear-free environment. "The establishment of the Anti-Extortion Cell is an important and effective step in this direction. It will help curb organized crime and further strengthen public trust in the police," the Superintendent of Police said.
