Dubbing itself the E20 Janta Party, the online campaign is pressuring the Indian government to restore consumer choice by mandating that petrol pumps offer 100% petrol alongside E20 blended fuel.
The Demand of the E20 Janta Party
The E20 Janta Party, whose X account is based in Malaysia, clarifies that it is not opposed to ethanol-blended fuel per se. Instead, it criticizes the lack of alternatives at the pump. Its core demand is straightforward: let consumers decide what fuel goes into their vehicles. The movement seeks the return of pure petrol (E0), clear fuel labeling at petrol stations, public disclosure of studies on mileage, engine performance, and maintenance costs, and independent research on the long-term impact of E20 fuel.
According to the party's posts on X and Instagram, they are not asking for free fuel or subsidies, but for a basic consumer right—the ability to choose 100% petrol. A post from July 26, 2026, reads: "Our demand is simple. We are not asking for free fuel. We are not asking for subsidies. We are asking for one basic consumer right: Give Indians the choice to buy 100% petrol. Let citizens decide what goes into their tanks."

The movement borrows the satirical style that propelled the CJP to national attention during the NEET paper leak protests. The E20 Janta Party uses humor and social media virality to draw attention to fuel policy, a tactic that has resonated with many users. Former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia reposted the party's message on X, amplifying its reach.

A third netizen criticized the framing: "Calling this 'choice' is misleading. It’s like diluting milk and then charging double for pure milk.
