Tragic Death of Speech-Impaired Teen in Bihar Over Cricket Match Misunderstanding

A 17-year-old speech-impaired teenager, Kundan Kumar, was allegedly beaten to death following a tragic misunderstanding during the high-stakes cricket match.

The victim, Kundan Kumar, was a resident of ward number 18 in Jakkopur village under the Mahnar police station area. He was the youngest of four siblings, born to farmer Brijkishor Rai. According to police reports and local accounts, the incident occurred when a group of teenagers gathered to watch the final match on a cellphone.
During the game, when India lost a wicket, Kundan allegedly shouted. Another youth, identified as 17-year-old Kisan Kumar, son of Visunkant Thakur from the same neighborhood, misinterpreted this reaction as a celebration of India's misfortune. What began as a brief exchange quickly escalated into a heated argument and then a violent physical altercation.
Mother's Heartbreaking Account
Kundan's mother provided a poignant account of the tragedy. "On March 8, Kundan went out of the house for some work. It is not known how he ended up near those people. Some boys from the village were watching the match on a cellphone. My son also started watching there," she recounted.
She further alleged that one of the youths asked Kundan to move away, but he remained. "When India’s first wicket fell, Kundan screamed. They thought he was happy about the wicket falling. The youths beat him up and smashed his head," the grieving mother stated, highlighting the tragic misinterpretation that led to the fatal assault.
Medical Treatment and Fatal Outcome
After the brutal assault, locals rushed Kundan to the Mahnar Community Health Centre, where he received primary treatment. However, seeing his critical condition, doctors referred him to Hajipur Sadar Hospital. From there, he was further referred to Patna Medical College and Hospital for advanced care.
Tragically, Kundan succumbed to his injuries while being transported to Patna early Monday morning, never reaching the specialized medical facility that might have saved his life.
Police Investigation and Official Statement
Mahnar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Praveen Kumar provided official details about the case. "The incident of assault took place in a mutual dispute between two youths over watching cricket. During the altercation, Kundan fell on a stone after being pushed, which caused him serious injuries. He was being taken to the PMCH for treatment but succumbed to his injuries on the way," the SDPO explained.
Police have launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter. A forensic team has visited the crime scene and collected crucial samples. Authorities have formed two special teams to track down the accused, Kisan Kumar, with raids currently underway to apprehend him.
