Insurance Surveyor's High-Speed Crash Claims Four Lives on Ganga Expressway
Lucknow: A devastating accident on the under-construction Ganga Expressway in Raebareli's Jagatpur area has left four people dead, with police investigations revealing that an insurance company surveyor was driving at a staggering speed of nearly 140 kilometers per hour. The accused, identified as Vikas Mishra, was arrested hours after the horrific crash on Sunday, which abruptly turned a village celebration into a scene of profound tragedy and mourning.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The collision occurred around 1 PM near Chuli village, where nine teenage girls and young women were returning home via the expressway. At the same time, Vikas Mishra was driving his car from Prayagraj towards Raebareli at an excessively high velocity. Eyewitness accounts describe the vehicle as appearing unstable moments before the catastrophic impact.
Shubham, a resident of Bargadaha village who was present nearby, provided a chilling testimony. He stated that the car was swerving dangerously and seemed to have a punctured front tyre. "The driver was struggling to control the car and appeared intoxicated," Shubham reported. The out-of-control vehicle ploughed into the group of girls and then violently rammed into the divider, completely smashing its front portion.
Alleged Delays in Emergency Response
Local residents have raised serious concerns about significant delays in the emergency response following the accident. According to their allegations, the ambulance arrived approximately 40 minutes after the crash, and its door failed to open for an additional 20 to 25 minutes. This critical delay had fatal consequences.
By the time the victims were transported to the Jagatpur community health centre, two had already succumbed to their injuries, while the other two passed away later. Farmer Ramesh Kumar expressed his anguish, asserting that timely medical assistance could have potentially saved lives.
Police Investigation and Preliminary Findings
Circle officer of Dalmau, Girja Shankar Tripathi, confirmed that preliminary findings from the police investigation point to speeding and negligence as primary factors in the crash. "The exact speed, intoxication angle, and other technical aspects are being thoroughly examined," Tripathi stated, emphasizing that a comprehensive inquiry is underway to determine all contributing circumstances.
