Motihari: In a significant move to bolster border security, Rekha Lohani, the Additional Director General (ADG) of the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB), undertook an extensive visit to the India-Nepal border on Thursday. Her inspection focused on the critical 47 Battalion of SSB, where she meticulously reviewed existing security protocols and provided essential guidance to officers, taking into account the heightened sensitivity of border management in the region.
On-Ground Assessment at Key Transit Points
During her visit, ADG Lohani visited several pivotal locations, including the Land Port Authority of India (LPAI), the Integrated Check Post (ICP), and the Maitri bridge, which serves as the primary transit point at Raxaul between India and Nepal. She engaged directly with SSB personnel deployed at these sites to gather firsthand information about security arrangements, ensuring a thorough understanding of operational challenges and strengths.
A key issue addressed was the persistent traffic congestion at the border. Lohani emphasized the necessity of maintaining utmost vigilance in identifying and checking citizens crossing the border, aiming to implement foolproof security measures that can handle high-volume transit without compromising safety.
Morale Boost and Interaction with Personnel
Following her inspection of the Maitri bridge, the ADG proceeded to the headquarters of the 47 Battalion of SSB. Here, she interacted directly with the force's personnel, inquiring about duty-related problems and listening to their concerns. In a morale-boosting address, she praised the soldiers for their unwavering dedication to ensuring border security, even under difficult and challenging circumstances.
"The SSB plays a vital role in serving the nation," Lohani stated, underscoring the importance of their work in maintaining national integrity and security along the porous border with Nepal.
High-Level Meeting with Officials
The visit culminated in a high-level meeting attended by key officials, including Sanjay Pandey, commandant of the 47 Battalion, Hari Prakash, DIG of SSB sector headquarters Bettiah, and second command officer Sanjay Rawat. Notably, Mohan Bahadur Chhatri, SP of the Armed Police Force of Nepal, also participated, highlighting the collaborative nature of border management between the two nations.
