STF Nabs Burglar Wanted in Six Cases

The Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh Police has arrested a notorious burglar who was wanted in six cases of theft and burglary in Prayagraj. The accused, identified as Ramesh Kumar, was apprehended from a hideout in the Naini area late on Tuesday night.

Details of the Arrest

Acting on a tip-off, a team of STF personnel led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Vikram Singh conducted a raid at a rented accommodation in Naini. The accused tried to flee but was overpowered by the team. A country-made pistol and stolen jewelry worth approximately Rs 5 lakh were recovered from his possession.

History of Crimes

Ramesh Kumar, a native of Kaushambi district, was involved in multiple burglaries in upscale localities of Prayagraj. According to police records, he had been evading arrest for the past six months. The six cases registered against him include thefts from residential houses, a jewelry shop, and a mobile phone store. In one of the incidents, he had stolen cash and valuables worth Rs 12 lakh from a house in the Georgetown area.

DSP Vikram Singh stated that the accused used to target houses during daytime when the occupants were away. He would break the locks and flee with the loot. The STF had been tracking his movements for weeks before zeroing in on his location.

Legal Proceedings

The accused has been handed over to the Prayagraj police for further investigation. He will be produced before a local court on Wednesday, where police are expected to seek his remand for custodial interrogation. The STF has also alerted other districts about his possible involvement in similar crimes outside Prayagraj.

This arrest is part of a crackdown on organized crime in the region. The STF has been working in coordination with local police to nab criminals involved in property-related offenses. Residents of the affected areas have expressed relief over the arrest, hoping it will reduce the incidence of burglaries.
