Lucknow: A 20-year-old college student was allegedly attacked and an attempt to rape her was made while she was on her way to appear for an examination in the city. Police have arrested the accused, identified as Tej Bahadur alias Teja, 35.
Incident Details
According to the FIR, the BA third-year student was heading to her college for her exam scheduled at 2.30 pm when she was intercepted on the outskirts of her village. The accused allegedly threatened her with a knife and dragged her into a nearby mango orchard.
The survivor told police that the accused tried to sexually assault her and tore her clothes. When she resisted, he allegedly assaulted her, leaving her injured on her hands and back. She further alleged that he used casteist slurs during the attack.
As she raised an alarm, the accused allegedly gagged her and pressed her throat, causing her to lose consciousness. Believing she was dead, he fled the spot.
Aftermath and Legal Action
After regaining consciousness, the student returned home and informed her family, following which they approached BKT police station and lodged a complaint.
BKT ACP Vikas Pandey confirmed the arrest and said the survivor has been sent for medical examination, and additional charges may be invoked based on findings.
