A tragic incident has come to light in Sivaganga district of Tamil Nadu, where a 15-year-old student was found dead with his throat slit near the Keel Kaavanoor irrigation tank on Friday. The victim, identified as Ashwin, a Class X student at a government school, had reportedly gone to consume alcohol with some of his friends after school hours on Thursday.
Details of the Incident
According to police reports, an argument broke out between the boys while they were drinking, which quickly escalated into a violent attack. The suspects allegedly used a sharp weapon to slit Ashwin's throat, leaving him dead at the scene. Two of his friends, who are believed to be the perpetrators, have been detained by the authorities.
Discovery and Investigation
The crime came to light after an eyewitness approached the Tirupattur Town police station on Friday to report the murder. Acting swiftly on the information, police arrived at the Keel Kaavanoor irrigation tank and recovered the body. It was subsequently sent to the Sivaganga Medical College Hospital for postmortem examination.
District Superintendent of Police Shiva Prasad visited the crime scene to oversee the investigation. The Keelasevalpatti police have registered a case, and further investigations are underway to determine the exact circumstances that led to the murder.
Background of the Victim and Suspects
Ashwin was a bright student, according to his teachers, and his sudden death has sent shockwaves through the local community. The detained suspects are also minors and were reportedly close friends of the victim. The incident highlights the dangers of underage drinking and the potential for violence among adolescents.
Police are also investigating whether any other individuals were involved or if there were any prior enmity between the boys. The postmortem report is expected to provide more clarity on the nature of the injuries sustained by Ashwin.
The case has drawn attention to the need for stricter enforcement of laws prohibiting the sale of alcohol to minors and for awareness programs in schools to prevent such tragedies.
