Former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer K Annamalai has revealed that he declined an offer to join actor Rajinikanth's proposed political outfit in 2020. Annamalai, who is currently a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Tamil Nadu, made the disclosure during a recent interaction.
Background of the Offer
According to Annamalai, Rajinikanth personally approached him and persuaded him to become part of the political party the actor was planning to launch. The offer was made six years ago, in 2020, when Rajinikanth was actively considering entering politics. However, Annamalai decided against joining the venture.
Reasons for Declining
Annamalai stated that he had his own political aspirations and ideological commitments, which led him to decline the offer. He emphasized that his decision was based on a careful assessment of the political landscape and his personal goals. The former IPS officer did not elaborate further on the specifics of his discussions with Rajinikanth.
Rajinikanth, one of the most iconic figures in Indian cinema, had announced his intention to launch a political party in December 2020. However, he later postponed the plan indefinitely, citing health concerns and the COVID-19 pandemic. In December 2021, Rajinikanth officially announced that he would not enter politics, disappointing many of his fans.
Annamalai's Political Journey
K Annamalai resigned from the IPS in 2019 and joined the BJP in 2020. He quickly rose through the ranks and was appointed as the state president of the BJP's Tamil Nadu unit in 2021. Under his leadership, the party has been working to strengthen its presence in the state, which has traditionally been dominated by Dravidian parties.
Annamalai's revelation sheds light on the behind-the-scenes political maneuvering in Tamil Nadu and highlights the actor's brief foray into politics. While Rajinikanth's political ambitions did not materialize, his influence remains significant in the state's cultural and political landscape.
