Encounter in Sushant Lok Leaves Four Gang Members Dead
In a dramatic late-night operation on Thursday, the Gurugram Police Crime Branch gunned down four alleged shooters of the overseas-operated Deepak Nandal gang in upscale Sushant Lok Phase-2. Among the deceased was a Class XI student who was also a promising javelin thrower. The encounter erupted after the gang launched an unprovoked assault on a local businessman's residence over an extortion demand.
Identity of the Deceased
The minor shooter has been identified by police sources as Aryan, a resident of Baland (Baloth) village in Rohtak. Investigators revealed that Aryan was actively pursuing sports as a javelin player and worked as a local bike mechanic before recently being drawn into the criminal syndicate. Two other deceased shooters, identified as Nitin and Ankit, also hailed from the same Rohtak village, indicating a localized recruitment network. The fourth deceased accomplice was a resident of Haryana's Fatehabad district. The lone surviving shooter, Shivam from Bissar village in Mewat, is hospitalized under heavy police custody.
Chain of Events
According to sources, the heavily armed five-member module arrived at the spot in a rented black Scorpio SUV and immediately opened fire. The criminals sprayed nearly two dozen rounds directly at the residence of a prominent local businessman over an ongoing multi-crore extortion demand. The businessman, his wife, and a relative were trapped inside as bullets riddled the property. The police are yet to confirm the full sequence of events.
Police Response and Exchange of Fire
A Crime Branch team, already tracking the suspicious SUV following a control room tip-off, rushed to the scene while the firing was underway and quickly cordoned off the perimeter. When cornered and ordered to surrender, the shooters turned their automatic weapons toward the police, triggering a massive close-range crossfire. Law enforcement sources confirmed that approximately 65 rounds were exchanged from both sides during the high-intensity encounter.
Casualties and Recoveries
All five gang members sustained critical gunshot wounds and were rushed to a nearby hospital, where four were declared dead on arrival. Shivam remains under intensive care. Three Crime Branch personnel also suffered bullet injuries during the operation and are currently stable under medical supervision. Investigators recovered five automatic pistols from the scene, including three sophisticated foreign-made weapons. The Gurugram police are expected to address the media and reveal further details about the gang's operational network and weapon sourcing.
