Four Family Members from Khambhat Die in Tragic Surat Expressway Accident
In a devastating incident early Wednesday, four members of a family from Khambhat lost their lives when their car collided with a stationary goods truck on the Bharatmala Expressway near Ena in Surat district, according to police reports.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The accident occurred as the car was traveling towards Kim and crashed into the rear of the truck near Dastan village. Police investigations revealed that the truck had been parked on the highway after its front-left tyre burst, creating a hazardous situation for oncoming traffic.
Preliminary findings indicate a severe lack of safety measures: the vehicle was left without any warning signs, barricades, reflective indicators, or parking lights, significantly increasing the risk for drivers on the expressway.
Victims Identified and Aftermath
All four occupants of the car sustained fatal injuries in the crash. The deceased have been identified as Hozefa Adenwala, Murtaza Adenwala, Munira Adenwala, and Joyeb Murtaza Adenwala, all residents of Vohrawad in the Islampura area of Anand district's Khambhat.
The truck driver, whose identity remains unknown, fled the scene immediately after the accident, abandoning the vehicle. Authorities have registered a case against him at the Palsana police station based on a complaint filed by Aliasgar Dodiya.
Ongoing Investigation and Legal Actions
Police are continuing their investigation into the incident, with further actions planned based on witness statements and evidence collected from the accident site. Officials emphasized that strict measures will be taken to address such safety lapses on highways.
This tragic event underscores critical issues in road safety and the enforcement of regulations on India's expressways, highlighting the need for improved vigilance and compliance to prevent similar fatalities in the future.
