Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate four redeveloped railway stations in Karnataka on July 17, 2026. The stations are Badami, Koppal, Alnavar, and Bantwal, which have undergone comprehensive modernization under the Indian Railways' station redevelopment program.
The total cost of redevelopment for these stations amounts to Rs 80.12 crore. Specifically, Badami station saw an investment of Rs 15.1 crore, Koppal station Rs 21.14 crore, Alnavar station Rs 17.2 crore, and Bantwal station Rs 26.18 crore.
Details of the redevelopment
The revamp includes upgraded passenger amenities such as improved waiting halls, better lighting, digital information boards, and enhanced cleanliness facilities. The stations have also been made more accessible for differently-abled individuals. Additionally, the redevelopment aims to boost regional tourism and connectivity, particularly for Badami, which is a popular heritage site.
According to an official statement from the Prime Minister's Office, the redeveloped stations will provide a world-class travel experience and contribute to the economic development of the region. The project is part of the government's broader initiative to modernize railway infrastructure across the country.
Impact on local communities
The upgraded stations are expected to benefit thousands of daily commuters and tourists. Local businesses near these stations are likely to see increased footfall. The redevelopment also aligns with the government's focus on enhancing rail connectivity in semi-urban and rural areas.
“The redeveloped stations will not only improve passenger convenience but also give a boost to local economies,” said a railway official. The inauguration ceremony will be held virtually, with PM Modi addressing the event from New Delhi.
