Surat Man Arrested for Alleged Rape of Minor Girl After She Gives Birth
In a shocking incident in Surat, a 20-year-old man has been booked for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl, who recently gave birth to a baby. The Adajan police have taken swift action, arresting the accused under stringent laws, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Details of the Alleged Assault
According to the police complaint, the victim was employed at a shop within the Adajan police station jurisdiction. The accused, identified as Arpit Gupta, operated a fruit cart nearby, and the two developed a friendship over time. In August 2025, Gupta reportedly took the girl to a friend's residence on Palanpur Canal Road. There, he allegedly offered her a cold drink that was laced with a sedative, incapacitating her, and then proceeded to rape her.
Following the assault, Gupta is accused of threatening the girl to prevent her from disclosing the incident to anyone. The trauma led to the girl becoming pregnant, and she gave birth to a baby just two days ago. It was only after the delivery that her family approached the Adajan police to file a formal complaint against Gupta.
Police Investigation and Arrest
Adajan police inspector V A Jograna confirmed the arrest, stating, "We have arrested Gupta based on the rape complaint. Our investigation is ongoing to understand why the family did not approach the police earlier. We are also exploring whether Gupta threatened the family to keep the matter silent."
Both the accused and the victim are originally from Uttar Pradesh, with their families having migrated to Surat in search of livelihood opportunities. This case highlights the vulnerabilities faced by migrant communities and underscores the importance of timely legal intervention in such heinous crimes.
The police are now delving deeper into the circumstances surrounding the delay in reporting the incident and examining any potential threats that may have been made.
