Surat History-Sheeter Chirag Goti Faces New Extortion & Abduction FIR After Arrest
In a significant development in Surat, the Chowk Bazar police have registered a fresh First Information Report (FIR) against notorious history-sheeter Chirag Goti and six other individuals. This new case involves serious allegations of extortion and abduction, adding to Goti's growing list of criminal charges. The FIR was filed just one day after Goti was arrested in a separate mephedrone drug planting case, highlighting the escalating legal troubles for the alleged criminal.
Multiple Victims Come Forward with Allegations of Torture and Extortion
Police officials reported that several alleged victims approached the Surat Police Commissioner's office following Goti's arrest. These individuals accused Goti of systematic torture and extortion, providing detailed accounts of their ordeals. Investigators revealed that at least four disturbing videos have surfaced, allegedly showing Goti assaulting individuals, firing shots into the air, and brandishing firearms. Authorities believe these videos were deliberately circulated among Goti's associates to instill fear and facilitate extortion activities.
Detailed Complaint Reveals Harrowing 2021 Incident
In a formal complaint filed at the Chowk Bazar police station, Jignesh Vyas (36) provided a chilling narrative of events from October 2021. Vyas alleged that while he was heading to make a payment related to a land deal near Royal Plaza, he was intercepted by Chirag Goti along with his brother Nirant Goti, Yuvraj Jadav, and Ravi Bhal. The group allegedly extorted a staggering Rs 10 lakh from Vyas at that time.
Vyas further claimed that Goti threatened him with a knife during this encounter and demanded ongoing protection money of Rs 2 lakh per month. The situation escalated dramatically on October 24, 2021, when Goti allegedly abducted Vyas in a car and transported him to his residence in Radheshyam Society.
According to the complaint, Vyas was confined and brutally assaulted at this location by Chirag Goti, his father Ghanshyam, brother Nirant, and other associates. The accused allegedly recorded a video of this violent assault and threatened to kill Vyas if he ever approached the police with his complaints.
Police Confirm Multiple Complaints and Urge More Victims to Come Forward
Deputy Commissioner of Police (SOG) Rajdeep Nakum confirmed that police have received multiple complaints against Chirag Goti. Nakum stated that investigators have obtained videos allegedly showing Goti torturing people to extort money or settle personal disputes. The police official made a public appeal, urging additional victims to come forward and file formal complaints to ensure comprehensive investigation and justice.
Legal Charges and Criminal History
Police have formally booked Chirag Goti, his father Ghanshyam, brother Nirant, and four other associates under several sections of the Indian Penal Code. These include:
- Section 386 (extortion by putting a person in fear of death or grievous hurt)
- Section 363 (kidnapping)
- Section 342 (wrongful confinement)
- Section 506(2) (criminal intimidation)
- Section 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace)
- Section 120B (criminal conspiracy)
- Section 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention)
Additionally, relevant provisions of the Gujarat Police Act have been invoked in the case. Chirag Goti already has a substantial criminal history, with at least five previous offences registered against him at Singanpor and Chowk Bazar police stations.
Background: Recent Arrest in Drug Planting Case
This new FIR comes immediately after Goti's surrender on Monday in a separate case involving the planting of mephedrone drugs in his former partner Alpesh Miyani's car. Following his surrender, Goti was remanded to four days of police custody on Tuesday. The timing suggests that his arrest in the drug case may have emboldened previous victims to come forward with their own allegations, leading to this additional FIR for extortion and abduction.
