New Year's Eve celebrations in Surat took a dark turn, culminating in the brutal murders of two young men in separate incidents across the city. The Surat police have acted swiftly, arresting a total of eight individuals, including two minors, in connection with the tragic events that unfolded in the Limbayat and Sachin areas.
Limbayat Attack: Old Enmity Turns Fatal
In the first incident, which occurred in the Limbayat area, 24-year-old Jayesh Patel was standing near the Santoshi Mata temple. A group of seven individuals launched a vicious assault on him using sharp weapons. The attack was so severe that Patel succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
The police investigation revealed that the accused harboured an old enmity with the victim. The authorities moved quickly, apprehending all six adults and one minor involved in the attack within hours of the crime. The arrested adults have been identified as Vishal Vagh, Om Girase, Vedant Nikam, Gaurav Jadav, Yash Vyas, and Bhagwan Suthar. A case of murder has been registered against them.
Sachin Incident: Quarrel Over Paan Masala Payment Escalates
In a separate but equally tragic event in the Sachin area, another 24-year-old, Suraj Survade, lost his life. The incident reportedly began as a quarrel over payment for paan masala near a temple. The argument quickly escalated into violence.
The accused, Kamlesh Ranadeve and a minor, attacked Survade with a sharp weapon, leading to his death. The Sachin police branch promptly registered a murder case and arrested both individuals responsible for the killing.
Police Response and Community Impact
The swift arrests by the Surat police in both cases highlight a determined response to the violent disruptions on what should have been a night of celebration. The involvement of minors in such grave crimes has sent shockwaves through the local communities in Limbayat and Sachin.
These back-to-back incidents on New Year's Eve have cast a pall over the city, raising serious concerns about public safety and the escalation of petty disputes into fatal violence. The police continue their investigation while the city grapples with the loss of two young lives.
